Jacqueline DePaul and I are rolling into our 50’s and 60’s. Both of us are summer birthday babies. Jacqueline turned 52 in June while I turned 60 at the beginning of July. Being in your 50’s and 60’s never looked or felt so good!

And one of the best things about my age is being a proud card-carrying AARP member. I have been a member since 2014! They do a great job of connecting us with brands that love to celebrate us as we enter our 50’s, 60’s, 70’s & beyond!

Jacqueline is a member too and recently came to visit me in my new home in the Pacific Northwest (pictured above). We believe it’s a whole lot more enjoyable to live from a place of health and vitality. That includes exercise but also using our AARP member benefits for AARP® Prescription Discounts provided by OptumRx® and AARP® Vision Discounts provided by EyeMed.

I’m also a discount girl. I believe I was born with a genetic predisposition to find a deal. Some things never change. I may be decades older, but I still love a great value!

Prescriptions in particular can really add up, but with AARP® Prescription Discounts provided by OptumRx® you can find added savings! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism many years ago. What that means for me is waking up to take my thyroid medication on an empty stomach.

This program offers a free prescription discount card that can be used at over 66,000 pharmacies nationwide on all FDA-approved medications. The best part? The program is open to anyone! AARP member or not – but AARP members receive additional benefits, including deeper discounts on medications, coverage for your dependents, and home delivery – which makes my routine even easier! It’s so nice to know there are options to make prescriptions much more affordable and I can get some time back to spend with visitors like Jacqueline.

We also had a ball trying on all kinds of lovely glasses. What was that saying about “Girls Who Wear Glasses” back in the day??? Forget about it! With AARP member benefits, the coolest girls are those in their second, third and fourth acts, ushering them in with formidable style, beauty, and grace. After all, age really isn’t about age. Age is about energy. When Jacqueline and I get together, it feels more like a teenage slumber party than two women in their golden years!

At 60, I have my eyes checked every year and continually have my prescriptions for glasses “tweaked.” Prescription frames and lenses can be expensive, especially if you’re changing up your prescription. Not with my AARP member benefits! With AARP® Vision Discounts provided by EyeMed, we’re able to save 50% on prescription lenses with the purchase of a frame at LensCrafters, 30% on complete pair of glasses (frames and lenses) at Glasses.com, and save an additional $10 on a complete pair at Target Optical! Healthy aging means protecting those peepers! Fortunately, these days there’s an endless selection of stylish frames to allow you to see the world clearly while also showing your personal style.

Back to trail. Fortunately, with my move to the Pacific Northwest, we are surrounded by national parks and beautiful settings to take nice, long hikes in gorgeous surroundings. I believe getting outdoors and even simply walking, just like ensuring I take my medication and keep my vision prescription current, is part of the formula of leading a healthy life.

During Jacqueline’s visit, we went to Deception Point, the second largest national park in a city in the entire country. It’s filled with gorgeous gardens and beautiful trails, abundant in the most beautiful foliage. The best way to forget you’re exercising is to head out into nature. Walking is easy on your joints and can be done at just about any age. Taking care of our health isn’t optional. It’s imperative. It’s about living longer and healthier!

We are the new AARP!!!! Thanks for busting those barriers. I remember when I received my first AARP letter, asking me to be a member. I was mortified! Then, just last month, Craig received one – he will be 50 at the end of the month. We had a good laugh and I told him I had just been waiting for him so we could join together!

Then, something amazing happened this week! I was contacted by AARP that one of our shoes is being featured in an article for their women’s newsletter, The Ethel (coming out on September 29). I’ll admit, I had a few shoes in mind that I thought AARP would select, but my mind was blown when I realized that they had selected Payton – our 3″ platform pump!

Be proud, Catherine, you were on the front line, forging the way to prove that over 50 is just the beginning of amazing things that can happen for all of us!

xo!
