“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.” – Audrey Hepburn

Part of Mastering Modern Midlife is that sometimes you have to look like the Master! And nothing conveys confidence and power like a pantsuit … even if it’s pink! Fashion is one way we communicate with the world without words. Personal style is its own language. And every now and then it just has to say “Lady Boss!”

I remember when I discovered the power of fashion. I was a young girl in a rambling house filled with 4 raucous brothers. It seemed to always be on testosterone overload with motorcycles and minibikes and not a Barbie doll in sight. My way to “rebel” was to load up on fashion magazines and hide away in my little cubby of a room. I could get lost for hours on end daydreaming about the beauty and glamour of the images. I suppose there was always a part of my soul that desired a taste of that for my future self although I wouldn’t dare to think it could actually happen. It’s ironic that I now find myself doing my own version of a Vogue Editorial shoot … well minus the photoshoot crew, the hair and makeup stylists, and all the hoopla I suppose that goes on behind the scenes. It doesn’t matter that I didn’t make it into the pages of a major fashion magazine. What matters is that, at Midlife, I’m finally listening to the call of my heart and the desire in my soul to follow my dreams and make them happen my way.

As I shared in my last fashion post, I do believe that most young girls love the freedom of expression found in playing dress up. It’s not about perfection. It’s about creativity and letting go. It’s as we get older that we start trying to fit ourselves into perfect little boxes that can’t possibly contain those dreams of our hearts and desires of our souls. I do believe we aren’t meant to live in a box. Just as I feel we aren’t meant to color inside the lines. Freedom comes through the letting go. Freedom comes when we refuse to confine ourselves. Freedom comes when we allow ourselves to be ourselves, our true selves.

Mastering Modern Midlife means mastering every aspect of our lives from the inside out. It means diving into our inner worlds so that our inner worlds match our outer worlds. It means looking at fashion and style in a whole new way. And, it means, choosing to put on your infit before your outfit. Translation: The best way to rock a look is to slip on some healthy self-confidence before you get dressed. The key to great style begins from within.

Style doesn’t have to be complicated. This week’s look isn’t complicated but it is flirty and feminine, and strong! Last week, I showed a beautiful green pantsuit. What I love about a matching blazer and pants are the endless looks you can create. If you’re looking for the perfect weekend getaway outfit, it’s an easy way to build a wardrobe around. I found this suit on Asos. It’s one of my top online websites for some of the most fashionable looks at affordable prices. They have a wide range of styles and price points and some of the best sale prices on the internet! It sold out in a flash but I’ve linked a selection of my favorite plaid pantsuits for spring.

The pink and white check brings a fresh spring vibe to a classic look. For a weekend getaway, I would always pack a fresh, white blouse. The blouse adds to the classic elegance of the suit. You can always add a scarf around the neck for an easy way to change up the look. White boots go with just about everything. This is a pair by Rafe from Revolve that aren’t available any longer but I’ve linked some similar styles that will do the trick. For a weekend away, I would bring along a couple of bags. A clutch is always in style. It’s also easy to tuck away in a larger tote. This vegan dusty rose tote was part of last season’s Rachel Zoe Box of Style. The special spring edition of Box of Style is loaded with all kinds of wonderful fashion accessories that go with everything. They were giving away a free Jules Kae tote with the spring box for a limited time. If you hurry up and order one, you may just receive a Jules Kae tote of your very own while supplies last!

Bringing a cozy sweater along for a weekend getaway is always a good idea. I decided to layer it over a simple white tank which I also wore under the suit to show you an easy, casual way to change up the look. This is one of my favorite tanks. It’s fitted but also stretchy with the comfiest material. The sweater I found on the Bloomies site. It looks like a much more expensive design and has a luxurious feel to it. I fell in love with the color and the giant heart on the front was an added bonus. I shared these sunglasses from Elia Cherie in last week’s post. I had seen them on my friend, Jacqueline DePaul of Yellow Brick Runway, and fell in love with them. I was so delighted when I connected with the designer and she offered to ship me a pair. I would have bought them myself in an instant. The glasses come in the most beautiful package. When you open the box, the inside says “Be a Force of Character.” That’s the essence of the Moxie message. I defy you to wear these sunnies and not feel like a force of character…a force of character with a lot of fun!

That’s really the essence of style. Style has to feel fun. Style has to feel like you. Authentic Style, Intuitive Style feels like coming home. You relax. You let go. It’s like one giant exhale. A Modern Midlife calls for a fresh perspective and outlook on life. That perspective begins from within. It begins by loving ourselves. It begins by filling our own well with self-love and self-confidence. It begins by reconnecting to our true selves and the way we feel. The only thing that matters is asking yourself one question when it comes to fashion: “Does this make me feel beautiful?” In the words of one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Erin Busbee of BusbeeStyle, “If it’s not a hell yeah!”…forget about it. Cheers Beauties and Hell Yeah!

Thank you sweet sister. I’m definitely having fun with some new looks. The “Infit” is by far our most important accessory isn’t it?
