Hermosa Beach, California

“The only way to support a revolution is to make your own.” – Sophia Amoruso, #GIRLBOSS

Are you in the mood for some shopping, interior design, or yummy and healthy ‘down unda’ delights?’ I’m delighted to introduce you to one of my favorite places in the South Bay for all those things … Gumtree LA in Hermosa Beach! With a new store in Manhattan Beach and a Gumtree Kids in Hermosa, it’s become a don’t miss destination in the LA area.

Having moved to the South Bay from Chicago almost seven years ago, it took me some time to find my way around town. Now, I can’t imagine living anywhere but the South Bay and recently launched #SouthBaySaturday to share my passion for all things in my local backyard. Lori Ford is the owner of Gumtree and partners with her charming husband who runs the Cafe. Gumtree Cafe has one of the sweetest menus in the area as they bring Aussie inspiration from their native land. If you are in need of a getaway, the South Bay has a way of making you feel that you’ve entered another world. A slower pace than most parts of Los Angeles, time moves with a very grounded, down to earth vibe.

Lori is one of the kindest boutique owners, always opening her doors to our local blogging community. When I approached her about hosting an event for the Style Collective and it’s founder Annie Spano, who was coming in town for a visit, she didn’t hesitate for a moment. Annie is one of those treasures in the blogging world. She’s a young woman who saw a need to create a supportive community to help as many women as possible and create a successful #GirlBoss business. She lives to inspire and empower other women with the knowledge to help them achieve success and collaborate with like minded women in the community. She’s a genius and a love, and the women of the Style Collective adore her.

Arriving at Gumtree is always a delight to the senses. It’s a home decor and gift boutique with a beachy boho vibe. Filled with everything from home decor to jewelry to the finest gifts, Gumtree has something for everyone. With the café next door, you can make an afternoon out of it! And, we definitely did just that. The Style Collective sisters began arriving with hugs all around. With several of the women flying in for the event, it’s a reflection of the dedication of the women to the mission of the Style Collective and a deep desire to connect with and support one another.

Lori dished up some delicious fare beginning with some of my absolute to die for platters. The avocado toast is a local favorite. I’m partial to the roasted beet salad with the freshest mesclun lettuce and tart goat cheese. We laughed and talked #GirlBoss talk with Annie sharing her vision for the SC going forward. She always has a lot in the works as her mission continues to expand with over 1000 women in the community. Quite honestly, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Entering the blogging world is no easy feat, and it’s always beneficial to have a guiding light to show you the way. Annie Spano is one of the brightest lights out there with a heart of gold and we are forever grateful for her brilliant leadership and her kind heart.

Thanks to Lori and Annie for a day filled with joy and friendship. And thank you to this very special list of women who joined us at the event: Annie Spano, Julia Comil, Brielle Galekovic, Maria Guerrero, Margaret Rowe, Armita Tabassi, Tanya Monaghan, Kit Michele, Caitlin, Miz Fabulousity, Jessica Maurine, and Cathy Williamson. Check out their blogs for some fabulous inspiration!
